El Niño

(Crist Child) El Nino occours in the Pacific ocean and is created from a change in the trade wind speed which leaves a large pool of warm water in the south east region of the pacific.  This change in water temperature is enough to effect places all over the world through what is called teleconections, and by disrupting the oscillation patterns over the pacific.
Oscillation- The movement of different pressure and temperature systems in the weather and winds.
Effects of El Nino
El Nino is the most powerful and most unpredictable weather pattern on Earth.  The power of El Nino is greater than any bomb that has been created and it is less predictable than a tornado.  In most places it effects the normal weather patterns by totaly switching it around.  In places of rain and lots of water, drought occours creating lare fires in the dense forests.  In places of desert and driness, rain becomes abundant.  Hurricanes, tornados, and weather storms are usually doubled in strength.  El Nino one year caused 2,000 deaths and $13 billion in damage worldwide.

Places affected
California- flash floods from terrential rains created mudslides, sinkholes, and rivers in the streets.
Peru- The fishing industry which is the main part of the economy there was hurt by the dying population of fish from the raise in water temperature.
Florida- Forest fires left part of the state in ash from the lack of rain.
North Carolina-In the 1999 hurricane season hurricanes battered North Carolina with floods and high winds.
Honduras- alse hit hard by large hurricane systems.
Indonesia and Austrailia- Large droughts took place.
