Temperature vs. Currents

Cold currents- Cold currents are usually powered by upwelling and a good amound of polar wind.  All cold ocean currents travel toward the equator from where they are at.  Also, cold currents travel on the eastern side of an ocean basin or basins.  Warm currents- They are powered by large covection winds that come from tropical areas or warm ocean areas.  These winds drive the warm water currents away from the equator.  Also, warm currents travel on the western side of ocean basins.
Upwelling- When water from the surface is pushed away either from a change in temperature, salinity, pressure or wind.  This causes the ocean floor waters to come up and take the place of the water move over.  Upwelling brings good nutrients, fish, cold water and/or more salt up with it.
Thermohaline circulation-When winds in the ocean surface cause upwelling to happen by pushing away the water in a certain area.
